Sunshines Better (Talvin Singh Remix) 12 inch acetate coverSunshines Better (Talvin Singh Remix) 12 inch acetateVery rare 12 inch acetate of Talvin Singh’s remix of John’s Sunshine’s Better taken from And.

Manufactured by Masterpiece Mastering of London around June 1997 with the single itself being released in July 1997 on Mercury Records. A rather disappointing track by Wasis Diop on one side and the stunning 12 minute 53 second Sunshine’s Better remix on the other!

An acetate disc is created by using a recording lathe to cut an audio-signal-modulated groove into the surface of a special lacquer coated blank disc, a real time operation requiring expensive, delicate equipment and expert skill for good results.

In the vinyl record manufacturing process, an acetate master disc is cut and electroforming is used to make negative metal moulds or stamps that are used to press thousands of vinyl copies of the master. Within the industry, acetates are also used for evaluating the quality of the tape-to-disc transfer. they are not intended for sale to the public and are highly prized for their rarity. They can be played on any normal record deck but will suffer from wear more quickly than commercially produced vinyl records.
