Varieties Theatre, Leeds
The gig in Leeds was excellent. John was sat down – he said he had a broken toe – but fortunately, he didn’t seem to have been overdoing the painkillers! A great set (about 1.5 hours) of 70s material (my favourite), with lots off Solid Air. Danny Thompson was spot on the money all night (and probably all the time…), and John delivered beautifully in his own inimitable style. The City Varieties was almost full, and with people who were very appreciative of both John & Danny. Even the support act was good – sorry missed their names – who I think are doing the whole tour. Even the post drink beer in the Horse & Trumpet was good. Some nights everything goes right!
Best John Martyn gig I have seen since 1978. Get your tickets for the rest of the tour now.
